Pierre Elliott Trudeau:
The prankster who never flinched

Written by Sandra Phinney
Illustrated by Gabriel Morrissette

Once in a while, a country is lucky enough to have a truly great leader. Once in a very long time, that leader also turns out to be exciting.

A born prankster, Pierre Elliott Trudeau loved to challenge authority and go where no one had gone before. Pierre often showed up in Parliament wearing a yellow polka-dot ascot, sandals, and corduroy pants. He also drove fancy sports cars and hung out with famous actresses, singers, and musicians.

Extremely charismatic and charming, he became a media celebrity. But Pierre was not just a prankster. Not one to be intimidated by authority or protocol, he cared deeply about people’s rights and freedoms and boldly did whatever it took to create the foundations of a just society.
